Bundesliga Matchday 5 Results: Freiburg Go Top as Bayern and Dortmund Slip

Germany has a new leader. Dortmund threw away a win against Werder, Bayern dropped points at Augsburg, and Freiburg took advantage to move top of the table. The biggest result of the weekend came in Leipzig, where RB crushed Eintracht 6–0.

Before the round, we picked out four key fixtures and locked in the 888STARZ line. This time, the weekend delivered far more surprises than Spain.

Borussia Dortmund 2–2 Werder Bremen

Until the 87th minute, Dortmund looked set for a fifth straight win.

Before kick-off:

1.40 / 5.77 / 7.80

The hosts went 2–0 up late in the game, but Werder came back. Romano Schmid pulled one back before Niclas Füllkrug equalised in stoppage time.

In our preview, Dortmund were clear favourites. The 1.40 did not land. The draw at 5.77 did.

The frustrating part for Dortmund is obvious: the win was almost already theirs.

Augsburg 2–2 Bayern Munich

An even bigger favourite slipped here.

12.30 / 9.05 / 1.21

Augsburg scored after just eight seconds, with Robin Fellhauer setting a new Bundesliga record for the fastest goal. The hosts later went ahead again before Bayern finally rescued a point in the 80th minute.

Before the round, Bayern at 1.21 looked like one of the safest prices on the board.

It did not land.

The draw at 9.05 did — the biggest price among our headline matches.

Bayern now have 11 points from five games and sit only third.

RB Leipzig 6–0 Eintracht Frankfurt

Here, the favourite delivered far more than expected.

Before the match:

1.58 / 5.13 / 5.29

Leipzig scored in the opening minute and had the game finished by half-time. Christopher Nkunku completed a first-half hat-trick as the hosts ran out 6–0 winners.

In our preview, we highlighted Leipzig’s strong home form. The 1.58 home win landed with no drama at all.

After five rounds, Leipzig have already scored 15 goals with a +10 goal difference.

Mainz 3–4 Bayer Leverkusen

The wildest game of Saturday.

2.89 / 3.95 / 2.41

Leverkusen raced into a 2–0 lead, Mainz pulled it back to 2–2 before the break, then the visitors went two goals clear again and this time held on.

Final score: 3–4.

Bayer were slight favourites before kick-off.

Away win at 2.41 landed.

Leverkusen are now fourth with 10 points.

Freiburg Take First Place

While Dortmund and Bayern were dropping points, Freiburg simply got the job done.

They beat Schalke 2–1, with Keisuke Goto scoring the winner in the 85th minute after Freiburg had already gone down to ten men.

Freiburg now have 13 points, level with Dortmund, but lead the table on goal difference. Bayern are two points behind.

The biggest winner of the weekend was Freiburg. While their rivals dropped points, they won with ten men and took first place.
